Unless you have lived under a rock for the past year or so you have heard allot about 3D for the home. While analysts are still divided on how it will be received manufacturers are releasing more and more 3D products. Products from TVs to Receivers have been announced and released in some cases, however it has been very quiet on the content front from both studios and gaming.
The other day Sony announced a list of games for the PS3 and Develop is reporting that Microsoft will be making an announcement regrading 3D for the Xbox pretty soon. This is good news for 3D as gaming has been the main driver for this technology in home being the first use to be shown for a few years now. With gaming catching on and the popularity of 3D movies in theaters, 3D in the home has a chance to catch on be around for a while.

While manufacturers release products, and Movie Studios and cable / satellite providers announce, and/or release gaming and movie content it is still unclear as to the future of 3D. Part of this scepticism is the fact that customers are required to purchase new equipment in most cases that replaces equipment purchased in the past few years. The public may be thirsty for 3D, however in this economy they may not be ready to take the leap to 3D for a few years.
The announcement of equipment and content is a good thing for the future of 3D, however only time will tell on this one as other factors that are not normally in play for the release of such technology take hold. I know that this is one that I will be watching and routing for as it will help move the industry along as it captures the public's imagination.
